Keeping watch on the Deer

February 10, 2016

Apples and pears chopped and bagged ready for feeding time, on arrival in the field i noticed the mum and young waiting close to where i had left there food yesterday, on inspection everything had gone including broccoli and stems, the deer were not at all nervous and looked to be very content, so i dropped more food and left them while i went in search of woodland golf balls, in just over 2 hours in woodland hacking down thorn bushes and endless prickles, i managed 72 very good golf balls.

A majority of these were brought out of woodlands by my golf ball dog Tilly-Miss who just seems to have a great sense of liking Titleist Pro V Balls, we had loads of that brand ball today, and as you can see from the pictures tilly is back home having a cuddle from my wife after we had gone for a long time.

I  managed some pictures of the deer waiting patiently for food, well i hope that is the reason why Laughing out loud

Today in the woods.

20150319_17234720150319_172422

It has to be the best kept secret, look under the leaves and you will be getting far more than you imagine, we have in the last few weeks pulled over 400 just from the leaves, and i have a very large wooded area yet to venture to, it has served me well in the past and i am hoping for a very high return.

20150319_174043

In under 40 minutes i have 137 balls some brand new others bit of both but they will sell.

20150319_172404

All you can see is the access we have in the distance beside our huge farm field that is harbouring over 1000 as we speak its the time it takes.

And for tilly its the distraction of squirrel deer or rabbit then the golf ball to let you know she still has an interest

Wild Deer Stampede The Woodlands.

January 25, 2014

I was shocked to see so much ground reduced to divots on the walk i take each day, it looks as thou there has been a mammoth orgy staged during the hour’s of darkness on just one stretch of our long walk

As i walked i took the time to count the droppings or poo and was surprised to end my count at 27 heaps, what has been going on in the hour’s of darkness? is it time for me to get the thick winter thermals on and my night lamp that would light the ground area far better than Wembley stadium? I am going to take my chances one of these nights in the hope of just catching a glimpse of who is responsible and would i be lucky enough to spot the young one’s that seem to have vanished out of sight.

20140122_09482820140122_094749

Would this little lot make good manure for the tomatoes i wonder? would you believe that much is possible from a couple roaming, each pile was varying in size and hoof marks had churned the normally flat ground in to a rugby pitch, i have never witnessed this before and i am convinced this was a orgy on a mass scale with a very tired stag or stags at the end of it all.

20140125_11130620140123_145018

We walked around late this afternoon to keep a check on things and the area is quiet and no sign of a deer, but another pile of poo was laying in wait very close to where my 2 young rest often, but sadly on further inspection there hiding place was empty without any sign of a recent visitor, so i have to keep walking until i can find them, they are very close and laying low and it is i hope only a matter of time before i see them again.

I keep busy picking up the golf balls as tilly heads away to try and climb a tree hoping to get her paws on the squirrel, these golf balls just keep dropping and we keep finding them and taking them back to the yard to be washed and cleaned before we send them to destination anywhere, we have been sending them to Albania….Dublin..Latvia and Scotland and all over the country, here are a few

20140125_13484620140125_134918

Every make of ball you can think of in them sacks.

20140125_135117

Make your choice and buy with confidence, we do not sell any rubbish or damaged golf ball, we have walked golf courses and woodlands far to long and we know a good ball when we see one, we take care and wash the old fashioned way by hand, yes every ball passes through my hands and is inspected far better than Morse would ever do, but my hands and fingers do take a beating.

Right have to go as it is time to sort out dinner for Scraggy Fox, not sure what i will put out tonight but something warm will do him good on this cold night, i will do him chicken and potatoes and cabbage and this will be warmed through about 01:30 as he has started arriving at this time in the last week and i will wait up until he has arrived then i will go to bed, but not before i feed him, he is a huge beast of a dog fox and you could saddle him and he has been coming for a couple of years at various times, but he is arriving in the early hour’s more now so he is obviously doing his rounds….Until next time take care and thanks for your visit…!

No stopping the golf balls hitting the field.

July 29, 2013

Despite the rain we get out there collecting what we can and i just cannot believe how many we have collected over the last few days. I have had my mate the young farmer at hand helping me clear the field daily and we decided to go underground in the thorn bushes, like commando’s we started to crawl through the most uncomfortable ground you could imagine but what a collection was waiting for us, i hate to think if any golfer had looked in and seen us, they would never have believed what they were looking at, 2 adults and a dog crawling round like babies pockets bulging with golf balls of all colours.

20130729_16430120130725_172839

That was our first haul and they kept on flowing and soon with our back broken we left the rest for another day, there has to be another 500 still laying in the cold wet night to be rescued, tilly-miss had great fun as for me and the farmer a few scratches and aches and pains that i am sure we will sleep off.

My first chance of the mum and young deer this morning, i stumbled by chance on them after spending an hour looking for them and there they were out in the sun, not great pictures but the closest i could get to them

20130729_092624-120130729_092624

Lovely to see them together and mum is there quite happy looking at me when i called, but the young are not yet used to me calling and were away quickly, but we will be patient and hopefully given time they will get used to me, but the young ones are as sharp as anything leading me a merry chase round the woodland, they certainly know how to wear me out and as young as they are they know all the short cuts and holes in the fences to get through and have worked out how to go under the metal gates and not to try going through the railings !

Tilly has been brilliant the last week, working so hard in the heat and the rain, but i know she wont be happy tomorrow when my bag gets packed for yet another journey that will take me away again on tour to Moscow…Sweden….Finland…but it will be for 12 days only and cannot wait for it to end before i have gone?

20130729_16582320130724_093712-1

20130725_153515-1

All machines topped up with new lines and another one sited, so i can go away happy knowing when i return i will have to do it all again, and in my dreams the field and woodland will be a wash with Pro V Golf Balls….aagh what a dream…..

Stay safe and take care

Hard work in the woods now.

May 13, 2013

The fast growing of bluebell’s and stinging nettles has taken its toll and we are now having to use our x-ray vision to hunt out the golf balls that drop daily in all areas, believe me this is hard work.

20130513_13163320130513_131649

And on top of all this we then have more disruption having to deal with the likes of this friendly deer who now pop’s up frequently as we walk round, sometimes without warning the huge beast lets me know it is there and is more than happy that i get quite close for a picture.

20130510_20250220130510_202440

You really do have to see the size of this beauty to be really scared, it is huge but has a good character and is obviously happy.

That is not all that has taken to resting in the wood, the ducks who visit every year to my door for regular feeding were taking a rest in the field

20130510_203029

I am hoping they survived the night and the naughty fox did not get to them.

Here is tilly enjoying her rest after a long day and so much walking, but she is the correct weight 8kg for her age and bang on what she should be, as told by the vet? but do we believe everything they say because most of the time it will cost us money?

20130510_210224-1

And what about postage charges? my goodness i sent 9 golf balls to a client and could not believe the cost £5:64p who is kidding who?

20130513_105801

How can anyone afford to pay that much, I will have to consider whether it is worth offering to sell small amounts or do i just concentrate on the bigger volumes to make a few pounds to keep tilly in good condition?

The last week has been a nightmare.

April 24, 2013

Have not been able to use my desktop PC and have struggled to get mail  through my phone? blamed and shouted at BT accused there engineers of being utterly useless bas****s and gave there service in India a hard time…how wrong could i be?

It turns out my lovely wife had been playing with her kindle looking for wallpaper and paints to decorate our bedroom and by sheer accident wiped all and everything from the home hub? a simple thing that caused so much trouble and loss of work all because my wife has no idea on how to turn the kindle on let alone do anything positive with it but all sorted now until her next brainstorming  venture.

So here are some things we found recently in the woods

20130417_11013820130417_110237

Obviously one lady golfer will not be smelling very sweet after an 18 hole walk or had she intentions of have a bath in the pond at the 18th ?…mmmm the mind boggles at the thought…lol.

Have you seen golf balls like these before

20130417_10441920130417_110550

And this one

20130417_110701

And what about this very handy golf ball collector given to me by a lovely lady near the golf course, what a fancy bit of kit

20130417_104552

I should imagine it will hold 50 golf balls, no wonder tilly-miss is guarding it for me.

20130416_12143520130417_095335

As you can see the Deer are making themselves at home quite nicely in the top fields now and Romeo is busy courting his new mate and they are together constantly, romeo spends most days sleeping under the tree trying to keep his strength up for the night shift it seems.

Anyway it is my birthday today and i am heading to the pub for a session that will leave me worse for wear in the morning, so until then take care for now.

Golf Balls Galore.

March 17, 2013

My apologies for no recent posts of late as i had to spend time in Germany which also involved a trip to France, but back home now and back to the woodlands for peace of mind and the freedom myself and Tilly yearn for.

20130316_112439

We are out on a mission as soon as i am home, tilly very excited to be going back in search of fun and myself being happy to collect every golf ball there is and believe me we have had a huge coup in the last few days, just in 20 minutes of walking this morning we had this little lot

20130317_14235320130317_14340620130317_142404 (2)

with some nice logo balls from various companies and courses including this nice ball from The Berkshire club.

We find them in filthy condition and as you see there is even growth on this ball which is better than some we collect, some have horse muck and cow dung but a ball is a ball and if we see it we will have it.

20130316_15223620130316_11265020130316_11253420130302_174919 (2)

Things are changing in the woodland with new trees and chutes growing the arrival of more deer, we now have 9 in the wood along with recent arrival of pheasant and partridge that have not been there for years, so hopefully things look good on the wildlife side.20130219_15501820130219_15553420130219_15510520130215_140106

Today we had 2 bags which i am struggling to get in the nets as they are now full and have been sold to a golf outlet, but i have to organise some heavy duty boxes or crates so the courier man can collect them.

What has been going on in the woods today.

February 27, 2013

We have had a lovely day out in the woods and fields whilst the sunshine was out, i was not expecting to be so busy but sitting around doing nothing is not my style and do you really think tilly would let me have any rest at home?

The morning started well with a fast paced walk around the grounds of the woodland where we met new faces who all asked the question “what have you done with the deer” they all seem to miss them and after putting them right the locals were happy.

We then took to the road again after a cup of tea and headed to our field with the golf ball retriever and within 30 minutes we amassed just short of 200 balls.

20130227_14363820130227_131252

We pulled these direct from under the thorn bushes with the extendable retriever, what a bit of kit when you look at them thorns and how they cut in to your skin

20130227_14295220130227_142930

So our problem solved and there are so many it will take me days to get them all

20130227_14304920130227_142854

Tilly then met her friend Poppy and we joined Tony on a walk in the woods to try and catch sight of the deer and guess what, we did count 7 in the woods who were quite happy to see us, sadly we never got close enough to get a good picture but zoom these images in and you might see them.

20130227_16450620130227_164454

And here is poppy tilly’s best friend

20130227_16464020130227_164648

Poppy getting a little treat from tony for being good, a perfect end to a long day, now i am going for my treat a dozen or so pints to round of a lovely day….headache tomorrow…..can feel it already…

Golf Ball….Deer….Wooden Gates….what a week !

March 30, 2012

Nothing i like more than searching undergrowth for golf balls hiding under leave piles and believe me they are hiding everywhere,so no great surprise when i unearthed and saved the Merceded Benz ball, the poor ball could have been there for months had i not been so vigilant

The next ball was retrieved by my doggie tilly-miss out on the course, the ball was buried deep in the undergrowth and pinned against a post supporting a recently planted tree, after a few moments sticking her nose here and there and going back and sticking her nose in again the digging process started and the next thing tilly is throwing this prov ball in the air and what a bonus the ball turned out to be with a great logo attached

Deer today enjoying there freedom and tonight i spent 45 minutes before dark sitting and watching them rest in the field, they are allowing me to get much closer than expected
