Some sad news from the woods today.

As i walked in to the woods this morning i was called by Tim who runs a riding school close to the woodland, i thought straight away that there was probably something going on at the school which attracts lots of young children and maybe he wants help with something, but i just was not prepared for what i heard from him.

I have some bad news he said and i could see he was trying to keep his composure together….Riley has died after being kicked by a horse in the yard, it turns out a new arrival horse to the stable was grazing quite content when one of the stable girls was playing with Riley and a football was thrown and Riley took on the chase to retrieve it and it landed close to the horse which in turn was not used to Riley and lashed out, poor Riley took the full force to the head causing very distressful injuries.

Despite the efforts of the owner who was there on her own and without the support of Tim the long wait for a vet never helped the situation and which sadly  resulted in brain damage and convulsions and fits during this time, poor Riley put on a very brave fight to save his life and at 01:20 in the morning the vet called to say Riley had passed away despite there efforts to save him.

Riley Beast as i called him was a real funny little character, he had no idea on hunting and was only interested in trying to hump my tilly –miss who went under the knife years ago but Riley was not aware of that.

Riley was a young timid little terrier who was left to roam his 14 month life in a field, many times i wanted to take him home with me and to let him settle with us but the owners wouldn’t let him go.

Here are pictures of our dear little friend Riley who would follow me and tilly everywhere, he was learning as he grew day by day, but sadly he never learnt the most important lesson of the stable.

Tilly-Miss will be always looking for you

It has been a very sad day to hear the news and then i had a call from another friend this afternoon telling me his 16 year old jack had just died….what a horrible few days it has been.
